What type of Window Treatments Help With Privacy the Most?
Your house is your castle, and if you’re like most homeowners, getting window treatments in Fort Lauderdale that offer privacy and sound control to maintain your castle is important to you. Any window covering is preferable to an uncovered window. However there are some window treatments that add more privacy than others, even on specialty windows.
Improving Privacy on Hard to Cover Windows
All of the large, square windows you have are simple to cover with nearly any window treatment including Fort Lauderdale shutters, shades, or blinds.
However, there are some situations when you need a special kind of window treatment to get the privacy you want. These might be:
-
Windows in the bathroom where excess moisture can ruin fabric window treatments.
-
Sidelight windows that are tall and skinny on which window treatments can be pushed around by the door’s movement.
-
Non-square windows such as arches, circles, bow windows, etc., where typical rectangular blinds and shades can’t cover your window without sacrificing the beauty of the window’s unique shape.
-
Big windows that are difficult to reach like second-story foyer windows.
In these cases, you need window treatments that go the extra mile to provide privacy to your space.
As a bonus, look for window treatments that offer good sound control to keep noises outside and keep inside noise inside.
The Window Treatments That Give You The Most Privacy
The best window treatments for privacy that we recommend are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to fully close, for when total privacy and sound control is your goal. If you want to let light in and see outside, just tilt the louvers. For tall or high windows, you should position the louvers at an angle to let light in while still protecting your privacy.
Indoor shutters are also perfect for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are water resistant, they’re a natural fit for bathrooms.
Another window treatment that helps with privacy is roller shades. Roller shades take up very little space above the window, but are easy to pull down to prevent any views from outside your home. While they can’t be cut to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes in moisture-resistant material for areas such as the kitchen or bathroom.
Window Treatments that Don’t Make the Cut for Privacy
While any window treatment gives you at least some privacy, there are two that aren’t as great as those we’ve mentioned. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains were popular years ago and can add an airy feeling to a room. However they’re easy to see through, particularly when it’s dark out.
Another window treatment we don’t recommend for privacy are aluminum or bulky blinds, which can bend and/or get stuck at a certain angle. If you can’t totally close the blinds due to breakage, then they’re not providing much privacy at all.
